Meet Artist Gordon Williams of Conroe Texas
“I am deeply passionate about beauty and envision beauty in the simple objects that surround us. I am inspired to share a different visual perception of ordinary beauty that awakens the senses to appreciate things often taken for granted. Gilding is my art form, and the creative process brings me joy, peace, and a chance to discover something new every day.” Gordon Williams
A native of Austin, Texas, and a long-time resident of Conroe, Gordon Williams has always seen beauty in the ordinary. His passion for beauty and an appreciation for the simple things in life are exemplified in his art. He holds Artist Gustav Klimt in high regard. Of Austrian descent (1862 – 1918), Gustav was a symbolist painter whose art embodied a very intricate and meticulous style.
Gordon’s art form is gilding. His process is unique in that his work is created entirely of leafing. And his combination of using gold, silver, and copper leafing morphs into a luminous effect, which brings the ordinary subjects to life.
During a few challenging years, Gordon found that creating art brought him peace and a sense of accomplishment. What began as an outlet of self-expression and fulfillment eventually became his saving grace. This is when he read Author Kerry Skinner’s book titled “The Gilding Room” and fell in love with the art form, using it exclusively.
In 1988, Gordon formed Fine Art by Gordon Williams. Two years later, he married Ava Goggin, and together, they raised 3 sons. In 1992, he established Walls By Williams, an interior painting and wallcovering business. Although Walls by Williams became his focus for quite a few years, he always found time to create art.
Gordon sold his first piece in 2009. Titled “The Clock Tower,” it is a structure he saw situated on the University of Texas, Austin campus. His eyes were drawn to the meticulous lineage and its height, which could be viewed from afar. Godon remembers the occurrence vividly.
“ I asked the owner of a high-end furniture boutique in Austin if she would display “The Clock Tower” in her boutique. She placed it in her storefront window. Two weeks later, it was sold. Its size was 24” x 36.” I will forever be grateful for the boutique owner’s kindness and confidence in my work. With the sale of this piece, I finally felt comfortable enough to call myself an Artist.”

Gilding Artist Gordon Williams - Conroe Texas
As the years went on, Gordon continued to create and sell art from his collections. Along with private purchases, he was commissioned to design a specific gilding art piece for Lampros Gallery, The Woodlands, TX.
“This piece was titled “Oak Tree.” It took me almost a year to finish it due to rising muscle and joint pain in my body, However, the challenge led me to discover different techniques and tools, some of which I use today. The size of “Oak Tree” was 48” x 48”.
Now in his early 60s, Gordon spends every day creating new art. More than ever, he finds his creative energy flowing freely. His new collection (objects, animals, instruments, structures, nature) is rich in vibrant colors that, together, create harmonic effects. He is inspired to create his visual perception of beauty, and hopes that his art enlightens, uplifts, and enhances the perception of the beauty that can seen (or found) in simple things.
